The Berrien County Tax Assessors office will be Reviewing Property between the dates of January 1st through July 1st of each calendar year as their Normal course of Reviews for, New Construction, Homestead Applications, Agriculture Covenants, Additions, Remodeling, Reviewing Permits, Taxpayer Returns, Deed Transactions, Deletions, and Property Owner Requests. Pre-Billed Mobile Homes will be Reviewed May 15th through October 31st for Proper Display of the Current Year Decal and for any additions, deletions or changes to the property.

A 7% Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) is now required on every title transfer based on the State’s fair market value and is due at the time of the title transfer.

The un-remarried Surviving Spouse of a Firefighter or Peace Officer shall be granted total exemption from all ad valorem taxes levied, if such personal spouse, who as a member of a qualified Fire Department or Peace Officer Agency, Exemption is available for the surviving spouse, which provides an exemption for the full value of the homestead with respect to all ad valorem taxes for the unmarried surviving spouse of a peace officer or firefighter.
